Psychology Extern Clinician
​Alyssa Silvera Akhavan is a clinical psychology extern at The CBT/DBT Center, currently in her third year of pursuing her PsyD at Long Island University. She has previously worked with children, adolescents, and adults, addressing a range of behavioral and mental health needs. Alyssa has experience working with a diverse client base through community mental health clinics, hospital centers, and school counseling settings.
She is driven by a passion to help individuals and families live their most fulfilling lives. In particular, Alyssa strives to support parents in fostering an environment optimal for the growth and development of their children. She employs a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental approach, utilizing evidence-based practices tailored to each client's unique needs.
In addition to her clinical work, Alyssa is deeply engaged in research aimed at developing and refining training and assessment approaches to support therapist competence in parent training. Her work reflects a strong commitment to helping ensure that families receive high-quality care during some of the most pivotal and impressionable stages of life.
Alyssa strongly believes in therapy’s capacity to empower individuals to better understand and communicate their needs, build effective coping strategies, and foster meaningful relationships both in and outside of their family units. She is looking forward to working with you toward self-discovery, growth, and healing.
